Goals for 2009-2010

So, I actually achieved all the goals I could have imagined last year. I didn't really have a firm set, but I knew part of the way through the year what I wanted to achieve. I achieved all of the following:

✔Graduate Summa Cum Laude
✔Have over a 3.90 GPA
✔Outstanding Senior Award in Management
✔Outstanding Senior Award in Economics
✔Excellence in Service Award for COBA
✔Sammy Award for Outstanding overall student

For the upcoming year, it will be hard to top those. This past year was perfect.

  • Score a 1400 on the GRE
  • Be accepted into 5 MS Econ Programs
  • Restart the MBA Association at SHSU
  • Graduate with a 4.0
  • Finish the SHSU MBA Program within 1 calendar year
  • Have Golden Key win the Sammy for Outstanding Academic Organization
  • Win another Individual Sammy award
  • Finish personal research

I think those are achievable. We'll see how it turns out.

Puebla

So it's been almost a year since I've published anything of any importance. That's kinda sad. I just got back from a study abroad trip in Puebla, Mexico and it was absolutely amazing. I would love to go back next summer, but I'm taking a 10-week summer course to finish out my MBA. Yes, that's right, I'm going to get my MBA in one year. That's mainly because I want to go to a grad school that offers an MS/PhD in Economics. I still question myself and my ability to be successful at that level, but I want it.

I've been studying for the GRE by doing practice vocabulary everynight before I go to bed. I've also tried working on some verbal reasonin problems here and there. Since the beginning of the summer, I've been reading Calculs 1 & 2 for Dummies. I'm not quite finished with them, and they don't really apply to the GRE, but I figured as long as I keep working on math, I should be okay. Plus, I need to be better at it if I want to be competitive in a good grad program.

I also started my first 500 level class tonight, Econ 570: Economic Theory. I'm taking it in the Woodlands at The University Center, which isn't very exciting, but the professor is very good and he makes class interesting, so that makes it easier to pay attention. It's a very long car ride because I don't have A/C and temperatures routinely get over 100. Ouch, I know.

I've also started reading a book called Child 44. I'm hoping that by reading I can work on vocabulary indirectly, as well as pick up some extra work in the reading comprehension section. Plus, this book is pretty good.

I also went to NYC this past weekend, and did all the cheesey tourist stuff, but I had a ton of fun. I'm going to Orlando for the Golden Key International Conference, which is relaly exciting. I have some great things planned for this upcoming year. My main goal is for us to win a Sammy, which will be hard because there are a lot of good honors organizations out there right now. My Sammy for Outstanding Student should be in this week (according to Brandon), so I'm really excited about that!
